UNITED KINGDOM CLINICAL & STRATEGIC HYPNOSIS EXAMINATION
BOARD
The UK Clinical
& Strategic Hypnosis Examination Board is an independent
body that sets the criteria for the diploma course and
invigilates the final examinations. Because the examination
board is responsible for awarding the diploma, it regularly
assesses the teaching standards and course content, which
serves to regulate the clinical hypnosis diploma course.
The board of examiners ensures that students are evaluated
without bias and that the highest ethical standards are
maintained. In order to ensure a balanced evaluation of
each student the board is composed of mixed professional
disciplines and includes psychiatrists, medical practitioners,
psychologists and other healthcare professionals.
In addition the BST Foundation's Clinical Hypnosis Diploma
Course has been acknowledged as a favorable prior learning
credit by a number of eminent universities. Completion
of the BST Foundation Clinical Hypnosis Diploma has been
officially recognised by Roehampton University as appropriate
prior learning enabling students to further their education
and gain entry onto their degree programme in Psychology
accredited by the British Psychological Society.
The Foundations
clinical hypnosis course has also been recognised for
Continued Professional Development approval from a range
of governing bodies. This has allowed psychiatrists, psychologists,
psychotherapists and counsellors to use their training
to contribute towards their individual CPD requirements.
Mental health care professionals should contact their
own CPD organising body for eligibility.
The BST Foundation's
clinical hypnotherapy training programme has been mapped
to the Skills for Health (SfH) National Occupational Standards
(NOS) for hypnptherapy. SfH is the Sector Skills Council
(SSC) for the UK health sector. The 25 Sector Skills Councils
which make up the Skills for
Business Network are licensed by the Secretary of State
for Education and Skills in consultation with Ministers
in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Sector Skills
Councils are supported and monitored by the Sector Skills
Development Agency.

At the present
time there is no legislation covering training standards
of qualifications for hypnotherapists. It is essential
that students should give consideration to these matters
before deciding on their prospective training. The BST
Foundation is actively seeking new legislation.
As a president
for ethical practice and standards the BST foundation
is an organisational member of the British Association
of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Society of Brief
Strategic Clinical Hypnotherapists and Organisational
Friend of the Foundation for Intergrative Medicine. The
Foundation has also been a training provider to a number
of NHS Trusts.
UNIVERSITY
AWARDED QUALIFICATIONS (London Only)- Click Here
St Mary's University College (psychology
department) has joined in collaboration with the BST Foundation
to provide the first Diploma of Higher Education &
BSc in Clinical Hypnosis in the UK, thereby allowing students
to gain an accredited university qualification through
vocational training.
University Awarded - Diploma of
Higher Education - BSc (Hons.) Clinical Hypnosis
A DIPLOMA OF HIGHER EDUCATION (DipHE) is a higher education
qualification, awarded after two years study at university.
It is a university accredited professional qualification
and is highly respected by employers.
The DipHE in Clinical Hypnosis is the first recognised
undergraduate qualification in clinical hypnosis in the
UK. It is therefore, the "gold standard" training programme
for all those interested in studying hypnosis and becoming
a clinical hypnotherapist. The DipHE in Clinical Hypnosis
is a highly vocational training programme providing students
with a university academic qualification. It is a part
time, flexible course which allows you to continue working
whilst obtaining a recognised qualification.
A CLINICAL HYPNOSIS
DEGREE - BSc (Hons.) builds upon the DipHE in Clinical
Hypnosis with one further year of study at university.
It is therefore a three year part time programme providing
students with a higher level academic qualification in
Clinical Hypnosis (360 Credits). (Subject to final validation
commences in September 2010)
This is the
only undergraduate degree programme in Clinical Hypnosis
in the UK. The course provides you with a scientific understanding
of the principles and practices of Clinical Hypnosis which
have been developed through a culmination of research,
practical experience and continued exploration of current
therapeutic approaches.
Open
University
Credits gained through the CertHE (120 credits) or DipHE
(240 credits) in Clinical Hypnosis can be used also be
used towards other bachelors degree's with the Open University.

Springboard to a degree in psychology
The course has been specifically designed to enable students
to progress their studies further and where appropriate
to obtain a degree in psychology. Upon successful completion
of the DipHE in Clinical Hypnosis students are eligible
to enter the British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited
Psychology degree programme at St Mary's University College
at Level 2. This means that with only a further 2 years
study students will also hold a BPS accredited Psychology
degree.
In other instances students can normally convert a higher
education diploma to a degree with one extra year of study.
This makes the DipHE an attractive alternative route to
obtaining a degree which may be more appropriate for individuals
returning to education as it allows you to study part
time initially before entering full time education.
Currently Practising or Previously
Trained Hypnotherapists
It is therefore important to be able to offer currently
practicing and trained hypnotherapists the opportunity
to acquire a formal academic qualification in hypnosis
through completing the Diploma. As recognition of practicing
hypnotherapists' prior learning, students proficient in
hypnosis and those who can demonstrate a sufficient level
of experience will be accepted onto Level 2 of the Diploma
of Higher Education, therefore obtaining an academic qualification
in hypnosis through one year of study.
THE GENERAL
HYPNOTHERAPY STANDARDS COUNCIL
The Practitioner Diploma in Clinical
Hypnosis has been assessed and validated at a practitioner
level by The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (UK).
Graduates from this course are also eligible for professional
registration with THe General Hypnotherapy Register (the
GCH,s Registering Agency), together with the acquisition
of the industry-bases award- The General Qualification
