Hypnosis and Weight Control Work Shop
Eating disorders
and weight loss
Obesity is one of the biggest threats to human life society
has ever seen and the number of clients seeking help with
this problem is mounting. Being very overweight, or obese,
is linked to many health problems including heart disease,
stroke, diabetes and arthritis. And the world population
is becoming fatter, leading some to believe that we are
in the grip of an obesity epidemic. Over 30,000 deaths
a year are caused by obesity in England alone. A study
by the National Audit Office in 2002 estimated the condition
costs the NHS £500 million a year. The overall cost
to the country is estimated at up to £7.4 billion
a year. Adult obesity rates have almost quadrupled in
the last 25 years. Now 24% of Britons are considered obese
and 75% are overweight. The number of obese children has
tripled in the last 20 years. In Briton today 10% of six
year olds are obese, rising to 17% of 15 year olds. Childhood
obesity rates mean that this generation of children may
be the first generation to have a shorter life span than
their parents.
This one day workshop examines why obesity is increasing
and offer practical advice on how to treat clients with
this condition. The physiological mechanisms behind appetite
control are presented. Hormones such as ghrelin and leptin
are examined and the neural areas involved in appetite
control including the hypothalamus are explored in detail.
A complete hypnotherapeutic approach to weight control
is presented including a 6 week programme to use with
clients and practical techniques to aid clients in their
quest to lose weight successfully. Most people who are
overweight or clinically obese have been on numerous diets
and although they may have lost weight in the past, each
time they seem to put it all back on again. This is because
they are not addressing either the psychological reasons
why they are over-weight or the biological consequences
of years of binge eating and strict calorie control dieting.
The hypnotherapy weight loss programme taught on this
one day workshop addresses both these important aspects
of weight control. The success of the programme rests
on the integration of education with hypnotherapy to help
people consciously become aware of their eating but also
to educate them on an unconscious level. Using hypnotherapy
to back up the educational aspects of the programme helps
people with motivation, self-esteem issues and emotional
issues concerning their eating.
In addition the workshop also addressed eating disorders
including anorexia and bulimia nervosa. This one day workshop
is beneficial to all health professionals and therapists
working with clients with weight issues.
This is a non-examined programme and credits are awarded
for information acquired during the course that will contribute
to the Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis for Weight Control
& Eating Disorders. Students will receive their certificate
at the end of the course. This one day workshop will be
held at the BST Foundations usual training venues. For
