Entry Requirements
Many prospective students may not
have traditional qualifications or may have training in
a different professional field. Student applications are
viewed individually on merit and those students showing
commitment, interest and relevant experience will be considered
without formal qualifications. A Level candidates are
expected to have achieved at least 2 C grades at A Level.
A brief informal interview may be arranged to assess prospective
student’s suitability for the course. Professionals holding
a medical qualification or other recognised examination
will be exempt from this requirement pending initial discussion.
If you are unsure whether you are eligible to apply for
the DipHE, please contact the
Foundation and we will be pleased to explore the options
with you.
Current practising
hypnotherapist’s who can demonstrate the appropriate prior
learning or experience and wish to apply to update their
training with a recognised university qualification, may
be eligible to take a fast track route and be directly
accepted onto the second year of the DipHE programme.
International
students from outside the EU
To be eligible to be issued with a student visa students
are required to be register on a 3 year degree programme
leading to a BA or BsC.
Students from outside the EU are eligible to apply for
a student visa if registered on the full undergraduate
degree programme consisting of the Diploma of Higher Education
in Clinical Hypnosis (2 years study) and a further 1 year
on the BSc (Hons.) in Clinical Hypnosis. Alternatively
students may choose to complete a further 2 years study
on the undergraduate Psychology degree programme to obtain
a BPS accredited degree in Psychology. Whether to transfer
to the additional 1 year or 2 years does not need to be
decided until the DipHE is completed.
Please feel free to contact the Foundation or St Mary’s
University College for individual advice regarding visa
applications.
Admission Arrangements for Disabled Applicants
The BST Foundation & St Mary's University College has a established system set out
below for identifying students who may require additional support due to
disabilities, including dyslexia. This system aims to identify and
support specific additional requirements such students may have. We
encourage all disabled students to both declare their disability on
their application forms to contact us as soon as possible in order
that we can make any arrangements well in advance.
The system for applicants works as follows:
1. All application forms for the programme are inspected by Registry and forms from students who have
disclosed a disability are passed to the Dyslexia & Disability
Coordinator. Information on disability services will be sent out by the
Admissions team to all applicants who are offered a place/interview.
2. When requested the SMUC Dyslexia & Disability Coordinator
assesses the application form to consider the level of support
required. Programme Directors will be informed of potential students who
have particular support requirements.
3. Applicants who do not report significant
support requirements will be made an offer according to the published
academic criteria.
4. Students who disclose particular support
requirements may wish to visit the training venues and to meet the
Programme Team and the SMUC Dyslexia & Disability Coordinator. The range of
support and adjustments which may be required will be discussed at this
stage and should cover:
- Adaptations to the physical environment - mobility around the campus including access to specialist areas
- Programme specific requirements and possible adaptations to the programme;
- General learning and teaching requirements
5. Pending full discussion the applicant will have a better understanding of
whether the clinical hypnosis programme applied for will be
suitable for the study and support requirements of the applicant. Offers
made at this stage would be made according to the published academic
criteria.
7. All other applicants who have disclosed a
disability and choose St Mary's as their firm offer will be contacted by
the Dyslexia & Disability Coordinator once their choice has been
made.
8. As a condition of the programme applicants are required to complete a
confidential declaration of health to assess their physical and mental
fitness.
